As part of this archive you will find a Type 1 downloadable PostScript (TM) printer font, the bitmap screen fonts (10, 12 and 24 point sizes), and a TrueType suitcase for the unregistered version of a typeface I call Furioso. This face was designed in the 1930s by Berthold Wolpe under the name Albertus for the Monotype Corp., and executed as part of a project in graphic design in 1990 by myself. Since the release of Fontographer 3.1 a few months ago, I've cleaned up the face so that it will print and hint more efficiently on 300 dpi devices.
I thought about trying to sell this to a commercial font vendor, but decided against it on two counts:
1. Commercial fonts are generally offered at about 4 times their actual worth because of retail mark-up necessary in the outside worlds;
2. I would rather have more people have access to a useful font than make great gobs of money off of it (which is unlikely in any case).
Therefore, I've made available the capitals (also known as upper case or titling) of Furioso, along with the ten numerals and some miscellaneous punctuation as the unregisterd version.
For a $12 registration fee, you will receive the complete typeface: all upper and lower case characters, alternate characters (the J and M), an alternate decorative numeral 2, all punctuation, characters with all diacritical marks in upper and lower case, and many of the option-key characters. I’m currently working on adapting the lower-case "e" found in the Prisoner TV series that used Furioso for all of its signage. Also, you'll receive a photocopied page explaining the history of Furioso & a photocopy of the key assignments.
I'd also like to ask that if you use the face in an interesting manner, that you send me a copy of the printed piece to the above address. This will help provoke me to work on additional typefaces and release them in this manner.
I don't hope to make any money on this venture; I'd like to recoup some of my development costs & also find that this is a viable method to release fonts.
